Everyone on Fiorina 161 calls Ralph Brown's character 85, because that is the number they have decided his IQ must be. His name is Francis Aaron. He is the assistant to the prison superintendent, the functionary who relays bad news and absorbs the contempt of men with nothing left to lose. For most of David Fincher's Alien 3 (1992) he is a punchline.

The watch on his wrist gets the same treatment the man does. Nobody looks closely.

The watch is genuinely hard to see, and not by accident. The same watch-spotting community that has named every Seiko and Casio in the earlier Alien films points out that the inmates and staff of Fury 161, Aaron among them, wear what look like World War II era leather watch covers, the hinged protectors a soldier once flipped open to check the time. The watch underneath is never shown clearly. The franchise that gave the world the doubled Casio of the Nostromo and the Seiko pulsemeters of the Colonial Marines simply declines, this time, to let you see what anyone is wearing.

Which makes the end of the film quietly satisfying. When the company men arrive to collect Ripley and the creature growing inside her, it is Aaron, the punchline, who picks up a wrench and hurls it at them before the rescue team cuts him down. The man everybody underestimated turns out to have read the situation more clearly than anyone else in the room. You never do learn what time he kept.
