On New Year's Eve, a disgraced television presenter climbs to the roof of a London tower block meaning to jump, and finds three other people already up there with the same idea. That is the opening of A Long Way Down, the 2014 film Pascal Chaumeil directed from Jack Thorne's adaptation of Nick Hornby's 2005 novel. Pierce Brosnan plays the presenter, Martin Sharp, whose career collapsed in a tabloid scandal. Aaron Paul, Imogen Poots, and Toni Collette play the strangers he meets on the ledge. The four agree to put their plans on hold for six weeks, and the story carries them, paparazzi trailing behind, as far as a beach holiday in Tenerife.

It is in Tenerife that the Panerai turns up. Sitting at a beachside restaurant in a red linen shirt, Brosnan wears a Luminor Marina on a steel bracelet, its black dial catching the Canary Islands sun. StyleFrizz, the style site that catalogued the film's watches in 2014, noted the switch: the slick Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso of the urban scenes gives way on the beach to something sturdier, a Panerai rated to thirty bar. It looks like the same Luminor, reference PAM 00091, that Brosnan wore ten years earlier as the jewel thief Max Burdett in After the Sunset, a watch Quill & Pad notes got generous screen time and was talked about throughout that film. StyleFrizz suspected the watches here were simply the actor's own.
