"Little hand says it's time to rock and roll," Bodhi says in Kathryn Bigelow's Point Break (1991), looking at his Breitling Navitimer. Patrick Swayze plays Bodhi. The Navitimer is the Quartz Pluton variant: 200 meters of water resistance, dual time zones, split-seconds chronograph, alarm, sixty-minute countdown timer on the bezel. Breitling launched it in 1980, built for military pilots.

Bodhi runs the Ex-Presidents, a crew of four surfers who rob banks in rubber masks of US presidents to finance an endless summer chasing the world's best breaks. They hit four to six banks a year between June and October. Keanu Reeves plays Johnny Utah, the rookie FBI agent who infiltrates the LA surf scene to find them.

The Pluton was essentially the same watch as the Chronosport UDT, the chronograph favored at the time by Navy SEALs and other US special operators. Tactical chronograph functions and ample water resistance suited a wrist that might need to go from the beach to the bank floor in the same day.
