Niels Arestrup wears a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso

The frame on this record puts both of the film's documented watches in one shot: Niels Arestrup's Luc Germon, arms crossed on a Riviera terrace, a flat steel rectangle on a black leather strap on his wrist, and Patrick Bruel's Gilles Fontaine beside him with a steel bracelet watch catching the sun. Bernard Stora's Villa Caprice (2021) is a French legal thriller in which Germon, a famous attorney, takes Fontaine, one of France's most powerful businessmen, as his client in a property fraud case, with Irene Jacob as Fontaine's wife and Michel Bouquet, in one of his final roles, as Germon's father. The French watch site Montres-de-luxe identified Germon's watch as a steel Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso, and added the detail that makes the identification stick: he wears it flipped, caseback out.

That detail is visible in the frame, where the rectangle on Germon's wrist shows brushed metal where a dial would be. The Reverso was built for exactly this maneuver in 1931, when Jaeger-LeCoultre answered polo players in British India who kept smashing their watch crystals, and engineer Rene-Alfred Chauvot patented a case that swivels to put solid steel where the glass was. The same French site logged the second wrist in the frame as well: Bruel's businessman wears a steel Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, and Bruel himself, the site noted, is a friend of the manufacture. Arestrup, a three-time Cesar winner, keeps the lawyer's watch turned to the blank side for most of the film.
