In the new Matrix, Neo's therapist prescribes blue pills. Neil Patrick Harris plays him, an antagonist called The Analyst who has rebuilt the simulation around therapy and medication, keeping the most dangerous mind in the system calm and compliant. The Analyst's signature colour is blue, and it runs all through his costume.
The designer Lindsay Pugh has said Lana Wachowski was adamant about the blue glasses he wears, and the same blue turns up on his wrist. In the scene where he sits with his fingertips pressed together, ringed by armed guards, there is a watch on his left hand: a polished steel case set with a vivid blue crystal, domed and glassy, bright enough to catch the light in a dark room. There is no logo on it and no legible dial, nothing a collector could look up.
So it has gone unidentified. Spotern, the site where people post screen-worn clothes they want to track down, carries an open request for The Analyst's watch that no one has answered. The film's other watches were easier. Collectors named the Hamilton Intra-Matic chronograph that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II wears as Morpheus. The blue watch on the villain's wrist, the stranger of the two, is the one still without a name.
