Lit blue and shouting into a handset, Adrian Toomes wears a steel watch on a steel bracelet at the wrist gripping the phone, his fur-collared flight jacket bunched at the shoulder. Michael Keaton plays Toomes in Spider-Man: Homecoming, the 2017 film that made its villain a working man: a salvage contractor who loses a cleanup job to a federal agency and starts building weapons from the alien wreckage the government left behind.
Toomes is the blue-collar grievance at the center of the movie, a man with a crew and a payroll who decides the system is rigged and turns to arms dealing to keep his people working, and the steel watch fits him the way the jacket and the truck do, the gear of a man who works for a living rather than a costumed schemer. The dial stays unreadable in the blue light, and no maker clears the frame, so the brand goes unidentified.
Keaton plays him as the most grounded villain the franchise has had, a father whose menace stays entirely ordinary until it is not. The film's best scene is a car ride where Toomes quietly works out who Spider-Man is and threatens to kill him in the same even voice he would use to give directions.
