Michael Caine wears a Protime Wristflame

Universal made three sequels to Jaws. The fourth film, Jaws: The Revenge (1987), is the one Michael Caine famously never watched, though he did, by his own account, see the house it paid for. Joseph Sargent directed. Lorraine Gary returns as Ellen Brody, now convinced that great white sharks are personally hunting her family across multiple oceans. Caine plays Hoagie Newcombe, a charter pilot in the Bahamas who flirts with Ellen between flights.

The watch on his wrist is the find. According to Watchonista, what looks like a chunky Seiko digital is actually a Protime gas-lighter watch, reference EWL-8802: an LCD quartz watch with a working butane lighter built into the case, ignited by a button on the side. Protime sold these as novelties in the late 1980s, aimed at smokers who wanted one object instead of two. The detail fits a lifelong cigar smoker like Caine, and the watch is subtle enough on screen that it was long taken for an ordinary Seiko.
