Tom Mullen's young son Sean is kidnapped at a Central Park science fair. Mullen is the founder and CEO of Endeavor Airlines, the carrier he built after leaving the Air Force. Mel Gibson plays Mullen in Ron Howard's Ransom (1996). The kidnappers demand $2 million. Mullen doesn't pay it. He goes on live television and turns the ransom into a bounty - the same $2 million, now on the kidnapper, dead or alive. The watch on Mullen's wrist is a Breitling Aviastar.

The Aviastar is the last watch in the Breitling AVI/Co-Pilot lineage, the pilot's chronographs that began with the reference 765 of the 1950s. It launched in late 1996, the same year Ransom hit theaters. Breitling caliber 13 chronograph movement, 41.5mm steel case, 30 meters of water resistance, a bidirectional bezel above a black, brown, or blue dial. Production ran for two years and ended in 1998.

A pilot watch for an airline founder, made the same year the film was.
