Matthew McConaughey wears a TAG Heuer Carrera

Mickey Haller runs a criminal defense practice out of the back seat of a Lincoln Town Car. In The Lincoln Lawyer, Brad Furman's 2011 adaptation of the Michael Connelly novel, Matthew McConaughey plays him as a fast-talking Los Angeles attorney who works the margins of the system, and the film keeps finding his wrist. In a jailhouse visiting room, leaning into the glass to argue with a client, he rests his hand on the counter and a steel watch with a silver dial sits there in full view.

It is a TAG Heuer Grand Carrera, the Calibre 8 RS Grand Date GMT. Look closely and the dial earns the name: a 42.5mm steel case, applied markers, a large date below twelve, and a rotating disc down at six that tracks a second time zone. The strap is brown alligator. Watch retailers list it as reference WAV5112.FC6231, a model now discontinued.

TAG Heuer placed the Grand Carrera in the film, and the brand said as much. Worldtempus, covering the tie-in, quoted TAG's own framing: "time is an important theme to the film," and "for Mick, TAG Heuer is more than a watch, it is an essential tool for getting the job done." In the story Haller is defending a wealthy Beverly Hills client accused of attempted murder. The watch turns up again and again, its silver dial catching the light against the jailhouse glass and at the schoolyard fence.
