Nimrod Antal's Armored (2009) is a heist film about a crew of armored-truck guards who plan to rob 42 million dollars from their own trucks. Matt Dillon plays Mike Cochrone, the veteran guard who talks the others into it, and in the film's parking-garage scenes the large black watch on his wrist is an MTM Black Falcon. Columbus Short, who plays the younger guard Cochrone has taken under his wing, wears one too.
The Black Falcon is one of MTM's flashlight watches. Press the button once and five blue LEDs inside the dial light up so you can read the time in the dark without giving yourself away, a feature MTM calls Stealth Mode. Press it again and three white LEDs fire out the front of the case as a real torch. The watch was sold earlier as the Black Hawk, runs on a rechargeable battery, and comes in a 44-millimeter case of steel or titanium rated to a hundred meters. For men who spend their shifts in the back of a windowless truck, a watch you can read in the dark is closer to a tool than a luxury.
