Columbus Short wears a MTM Black Falcon

Ty Hackett came home from the service with nothing: no savings, a younger brother to raise on his own, and a house sliding toward foreclosure. Columbus Short plays him in Nimrod Antal's Armored (2009), a tight crime film about six armored-truck guards who plan to steal forty-two million dollars off their own route. The man who brings him into it is Mike Cochrone, the senior guard and, as it happens, Hackett's godfather, played by Matt Dillon. Cochrone calls it a victimless crime, and Hackett, out of options, agrees.

Then it stops being victimless. A homeless man wanders into the abandoned mill where the crew is moving the money, and Baines, played by Laurence Fishburne, shoots him. Hackett locks himself inside the armored truck with the cash and holds out for the rest of the film against the men who need him to open the door. The cast around Short includes Fishburne, Jean Reno, Dillon, and Milo Ventimiglia, and he holds the center of it.

The MTM Black Falcon on Hackett's wrist is the same watch Cochrone wears. The Falcon is MTM's flashlight watch, a titanium or steel case with a rechargeable battery, internal blue LEDs for reading the time in the dark and a set of white LEDs that fire out the front as a torch. It is the kind of watch an armored-truck guard would actually carry, which is the point of putting it on both of them. What separates Hackett from Cochrone is never the equipment.
