Al Pacino plays a Formula One driver who falls for a terminally ill woman, which sounds like a hard sell, and Sydney Pollack's Bobby Deerfield (1977) divided critics when it opened. Marthe Keller plays Lillian Morelli, the dying woman, and she gives the film its center: someone who has already accepted what is coming and spends her remaining time pulling Bobby out of his emotional numbness. Pollack shot it across Europe at a deliberately slow pace.

The watch on Lillian's wrist is identified as a yellow-gold Cartier Tank, but only by a single watch blog, with no reference and no supporting image, and it is not legible in any circulating still. Louis Cartier designed the Tank in 1917, its case modeled on the lines of a tank seen from above, and it has been a byword for understated taste ever since. A Tank would suit Lillian, but without a clearer source the identification stays a plausible guess rather than a confirmed one.
