Eggsy and Merlin spend one of The Golden Circle's early scenes zip-tied to chairs in a Statesman back room, and the still from that interrogation catches both wrists: two TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45s, dark screens against dark straps, the watch Matthew Vaughn issued to the whole British roster for the 2017 sequel. Mark Strong's Merlin, Kingsman's quartermaster, had worn a stainless steel Bremont Kingsman edition in the first film, whose dialogue teased the mechanical chronometer as a "bloody smart watch." For the sequel Vaughn asked for the real thing, and TAG Heuer answered with the Connected Modular 45 in Kingsman livery.

aBlogtoWatch detailed the special edition: rose gold lugs, a digital dial in blue or grey carrying the inverted K insignia, and two straps in the box, sporty bridle leather and a second in orange. Twice a day at 10:10 the rose gold logo plays a larger animation across the dial, and the Android Wear flashlight deploys with what the site called "a particularly clever Bat Signal-esque effect." Mr Porter sold the watch exclusively at $3,650 from July 6, 2017, two and a half months before the film opened.

Merlin's farewell became the film's most quoted scene. In the minefield outside Poppy's jungle hideout, Eggsy steps on a mine; Merlin freezes the trigger with a spray, takes Eggsy's place on the plate, and stands there singing "Take Me Home, Country Roads" at the top of his voice, drawing the guards in close before he lets the mine go. The performance left enough of a mark that fans petitioned Mark Strong to record the John Denver song for real.
