Louis Ozawa wears a Hamilton Ventura

Hanzo is the quiet one. Louis Ozawa Changchien plays him in Nimród Antal's Predators (2010) as a Yakuza enforcer, one of a group of killers and soldiers dropped onto an alien planet to be hunted for sport. His scene comes near the end. He stays behind in a field of tall grass, takes up a katana recovered from a dead man's gear, and waits to face one of the creatures alone, blade against blade.

Hamilton outfitted the film. Royce, the mercenary played by Adrien Brody, wears the brand's Khaki BeLOWZERO, and watch-spotters have logged Hanzo's as a Hamilton Ventura. The Ventura is worth knowing. Hamilton released it in 1957 as the first battery-powered electric watch, and its asymmetric shield-shaped case, drawn by the industrial designer Richard Arbib, became one of the few mid-century watch designs people recognize on sight. It is the watch Elvis wore, and the one Will Smith strapped on in Men in Black.

The catch is that the watch does not show in the stills available here. In the katana shot his wrists are bare to the frame, and in the suited shot earlier his cuff covers it. The Ventura ID comes from watch-spotting sites rather than a clear on-screen look or a watch magazine, so it sits a notch below certain.
