Nimród Antal's Predators (2010), produced by Robert Rodriguez, drops a group of killers and soldiers onto an alien planet to be hunted for sport. Adrien Brody plays Royce, a mercenary who comes to in freefall over the jungle and ends up leading the survivors.

The watch is a Hamilton Khaki Navy BeLOWZERO, the chronograph version: a big black PVD case, a black dial with oversized white numerals, and chronograph sub-dials, built to read in low light and take a beating. In the jungle still here, Royce sights a rifle with the watch turned up on his wrist, and the dial shows clearly, the fat luminous numerals, the sub-dials, and a red chronograph hand. Hamilton has put watches in hundreds of films, and the BeLOWZERO in particular became a costume-department favorite. Hodinkee groups Predators with The Martian, in which Matt Damon wore the three-hand version of the same watch.

For all the military look, Hamilton is not a tactical-gear startup. It was founded in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in 1892, built railroad and military watches across the 20th century, and is now Swiss-made under the Swatch Group. The BeLOWZERO is a 1000-meter dive watch that happens to photograph well.
