Kubrick shot Full Metal Jacket entirely in England. The Parris Island barracks were built at Bassingbourn, and the Hue City battle sequences used a derelict gasworks in Beckton, East London, that Kubrick had partially demolished and rebuilt to match Vietnamese architecture. Kevyn Major Howard plays Rafterman, the combat photographer embedded with Joker's squad in the film's second half. He starts as a rear-echelon journalist desperate to see real action, and by the final sniper sequence he's gotten more than he bargained for.
Rafterman wears a watch that isn't clearly visible in the available still. For a military journalist in 1968 Vietnam, the most likely options are whatever was available at the post exchange — Seiko automatics, Timex mechanicals, or Benrus field watches were the most common PX purchases among American servicemen.
