Dylan Harper is an art director at a blog network who gets recruited to GQ magazine's New York office. Justin Timberlake plays him in Will Gluck's Friends with Benefits (2011) as a guy who's good at his job, comfortable with women, and fundamentally avoidant about anything resembling emotional commitment. The film knows it's a romantic comedy about romantic comedies, and Timberlake plays the self-awareness without letting it curdle into smugness.

The Breitling Chronomat on his wrist is a lot of watch for an art director. Breitling introduced the Chronomat in 1984 as a pilot's chronograph, and the modern versions are big, heavy, and expensive — the kind of timepiece that announces itself when you reach across a table. On Dylan, it reads as a young creative professional spending beyond his means because he works in fashion media and appearance is currency. The Chronomat isn't subtle, and neither is Dylan's lifestyle — he lives in a nice apartment, dates attractive women, and keeps everything surface-level. The watch fits a man who's built an appealing exterior around an empty interior and hasn't noticed the problem yet.
