Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises (2012) ends his Batman trilogy with Bane's siege of Gotham, and the man who quietly makes the siege work is Barsad. Josh Stewart plays Bane's second in command, a marksman and League of Shadows soldier who first appears in the film's opening, delivering Bane to the CIA as a hooded prisoner so that Bane can spring his own capture. After that he is Bane's enforcer up close and his sniper from the rooftops. He barely speaks, and he does not need to.

The watch on his wrist is an MTM Black Patriot, which MTM documents on a page built specifically for the placement. It is a blacked-out 316L steel tactical watch, 44.5mm across, with a carbon fiber dial, a Miyota OS20 quartz chronograph movement, two hundred meters of water resistance, and Super-LumiNova on the hands. MTM is a Los Angeles company started by an ex-military founder who set out to build watches that could take a beating, and the Black Patriot is exactly that: a piece of kit, not a piece of jewelry.

Which is why it suits Barsad. He is a professional who treats violence as logistics, a man whose gear is chosen for function and nothing else. The watch never gets its own close-up, and in the shots we have it stays under his jacket cuff, but it fits him the way the rest of his loadout does. Nothing he carries is decorative.
