The watch world has only ever cared about one wrist in Confess, Fletch: Jon Hamm's, where Fletch wears a vintage Rolex Submariner that Hodinkee and the rest dutifully wrote up. Nobody bothered with the man across the bar. John Slattery plays Frank Jaffe, Fletch's rumpled old newspaper editor, now running the Boston Sentinel, white-bearded and bespectacled, nursing a beer while his former reporter talks.
On Jaffe's wrist is the anti-Rolex: a cheap black digital watch, the square resin kind Casio has sold by the millions, its little grey screen stacking the time in fat digits. The wordmark never resolves on screen, but the squat resin case and the stacked readout read as nothing but a Casio, the watch a newsroom lifer actually buys.
