- Character
- John 'Bluto' Blutarski
- Watch
- Hamilton
- Status
- Confirmed
Bluto Blutarsky has a 0.0 grade point average. John Belushi plays him in John Landis' Animal House (1978) as pure appetite, the wild heart of the Delta Tau Chi house that Dean Wormer is determined to shut down. The film is set at the fictional Faber College in 1962. Belushi gets the broadest physical comedy in the movie: he starts the cafeteria food fight, and in the most famous bit he grabs a folk singer's guitar on a staircase and smashes it to pieces.
The watch gets its own close-up. The camera holds on Bluto's wrist long enough to read the dial: an automatic dress watch on a black lizard strap, HAMILTON printed under twelve and AUTOMATIC above six. Hamilton was one of the great American watch companies, based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and a Hamilton on a 1962 college kid is right for the period. The specific model is not confirmed. One watch blog reads it as a 1950s K-375, but the dial itself gives only the brand, so the reference stays open.
