Through the first season of The Gifted, Agent Ed Weeks is the Sentinel Services man a half step behind Jace Turner, walking into the shot in a flak vest over a shirt and tie. Joe Nemmers plays him as pure procedure, the field agent who does the driving and the waiting while his boss does the talking. The show folds the X-Men into a family-on-the-run drama, and the bureau chasing them, the Department of Mutant Affairs, sends Sentinel Services to hunt people for the gene they were born with.
Weeks's watches surfaced after the show, when Propstore sold two of his screen-used pieces in one lot, together with his Department of Mutant Affairs credentials and a certificate of authenticity. Both are blacked-out Casio G-Shocks. This one is the DW-6900, the all-digital model Casio introduced in 1995, with the triple-graph display that gives the watch its three-eye look and a round Illuminator button at six o'clock for the backlight. It is resin, water resistant to two hundred meters, and it still sells new for under a hundred dollars.
The two-hundred-meter rating is dead weight on a man whose deepest assignment is a suburban driveway. What earns the watch its place is the rest of it, shockproof and legible at a glance, built to be ignored until the second it is needed. The DW-6900 has been doing that on screen for three decades, on Tom Cruise's wrist in Mission: Impossible 2 and again in Training Day, and on Ed Weeks it does the quiet version of the job, on an agent the camera is not asking you to watch.
