Le Grand Bleu (1988) is Luc Besson's fictionalized account of the freediving rivalry between Jacques Mayol and the Italian Enzo Maiorca, renamed Enzo Molinari and played by Jean Reno. The real Mayol co-wrote the screenplay; in 1976 he had become the first person to freedive to 100 meters, using yoga and breath control rather than conventional training. Jean-Marc Barr plays him.

The watch on Mayol has been identified as an Omega Seamaster, the dive line Omega launched in 1948. The identification comes from a single enthusiast source, which calls it a Seamaster Professional 600, and the watch is not clearly visible in the available stills, so it remains unverified.
