On a balcony high above the Intracoastal in Palm Beach, in a borrowed navy suit and a white Stetson, Jason Statham is pretending to be a wealthy businessman named Daniel Parmitt. None of it is really Parker. Parker is a professional thief who lives by a code, don't steal from the poor, don't hurt people who don't deserve it, and who gets left for dead by his own crew and comes back to settle the account. The hat and the suit are the disguise he puts on to walk into the world he means to rob, and the watch is part of the costume. Taylor Hackford directed the 2013 film from Donald Westlake's Parker novels, with Jennifer Lopez as the Palm Beach real estate agent who, without quite understanding what she is doing, helps him in.

The watch is a Richard Mille RM 011 Flyback Chronograph, a six-figure object and easily the most expensive thing he is wearing. The one Parmitt wears is the titanium and 18-karat red gold version, its mechanism left naked behind sapphire glass: a flyback chronograph with an oversize date, a 60-minute countdown, a 12-hour totalizer, fifty-five hours of power reserve, and a winding rotor Richard Mille builds for no one but itself. Its case is a tonneau, a long warm-gold barrel that rides loose below the cuff, and it is named for the Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa. What is strange about the placement is who wrote the character. Richard Mille announced the watch's role in the film, and supplied the line itself: the RM 011 "perfectly complements Parker's ruthless and courageous character." The description of the man came from the company that made the watch.
