Jason Segel wears a Rolex Day-Date

The characters in this film do not have names. Jason Segel is credited as Nobody, Jesse Plemons as CEO, Lily Collins as Wife, Omar Leyva as Gardener. That is the entire cast. Charlie McDowell directed, and Andrew Kevin Walker co-wrote the screenplay with Justin Lader. Walker also wrote Se7en, which should tell you something about how this home invasion plays out, though Windfall operates at a lower voltage. Nobody breaks into a tech billionaire's vacation house and gets caught when the billionaire and his wife show up unexpectedly. The rest of the 93 minutes is three people in a house talking about money, power, and who deserves what. Netflix released it in March 2022.

The Rolex Day-Date on Segel's wrist is either a prop choice or a plot point, depending on how you read the film. The Day-Date has been gold-only since Rolex introduced it in 1956 — no steel version has ever existed. Retail starts around forty thousand dollars. A petty burglar wearing one raises questions the film never quite answers. Is it stolen? Did he have money once? Is he not really a petty burglar? The film is interested in these ambiguities without resolving them. Rolex called the Day-Date the "Presidents' Watch" because Eisenhower wore one, and the President bracelet became the standard fitting. On a man named Nobody, the irony is thick enough that it might be intentional.

Segel is best known for comedy — How I Met Your Mother, Forgetting Sarah Marshall — and this is the most atypical role in his filmography. McDowell, incidentally, is Lily Collins' husband. They married in 2021, a year before this film.
