Jamie Dornan wears an Omega

Christian Grey's Omega habit started as a line in a book. E.L. James wrote that Anastasia notices "an Omega with three small dials" on his wrist, and when the first film arrived in 2015 the production matched the sentence with an Aqua Terra 150M Co-Axial Chronograph, white dial, three registers, brown leather strap, a choice the watch press reported as fidelity to the novel rather than paid placement. By Fifty Shades Freed, the trilogy's close, the spotters had stopped agreeing. The French site Montres de Luxe identified a Seamaster 300M on Jamie Dornan's wrist, while the crowd-identification sites logged a black Speedmaster Professional in one scene and a rose-gold Speedmaster in another. A newlywed billionaire changes watches, and the records disagree about which Omega is which. The brand is the one constant, on screen and off: Dornan is an Omega enthusiast in his own right, with an Aqua Terra, a Seamaster 300M and a Globemaster in his personal collection.

James Foley directed the third installment from a screenplay by Niall Leonard, who is married to E.L. James, and the newlyweds' honeymoon runs into a stalker, Jack Hyde, Ana's former boss, played by Eric Johnson. The trilogy took more than a billion dollars worldwide. With no clean look at the dial, the safe answer is the one thing every spotter agrees on, an Omega, and nothing more specific. None of the available Fifty Shades Freed stills shows the watch clearly, and the one image in the film's press gallery with a watch in frame turns out, on inspection, to be a still from the first movie.
