Hugh Grant wears a Piaget Polo S Chronograph as Dr. Jonathan Fraser in HBO's The Undoing (2020), the six-episode psychological thriller directed by Susanne Bier and adapted by David E. Kelley from Jean Hanff Korelitz's novel You Should Have Known. Grant plays a charming pediatric oncologist whose Manhattan life unravels when a young mother is murdered and Jonathan disappears, leaving his therapist wife Grace (Nicole Kidman) to work out who she actually married.
His watch is the blacked-out version of the Polo S Chronograph: a 42mm steel case with a black ADLC bezel, a dark dial, and, here, a dark strap rather than the line's usual steel bracelet. Piaget built its name on ultra-thin dress watches and high jewelry and launched the original Polo in 1979 as its move into luxury sport; the Polo S, from 2016, is the modern, more accessible take. It is an expensive watch that reads as quiet good taste rather than money for its own sake, which suits a man whose whole manner is built to put people at ease.
Time and Tide identifies it as the Piaget Polo S Chronograph Black, and it is unmistakable on screen: the cushion-within-a-circle case and twin chronograph registers are clear even in the dim, blue-lit scene where he cradles Grace's face.
