Hayley Atwell wears an unidentified watch

Over Peggy Carter's shoulder hangs a Captain America tour poster with a banner pasted across it: "Tour Cancelled Until Further Notice." That is most of the movie in one prop. Steve Rogers has quit being a USO mascot and become a real soldier, the Howling Commandos he just pulled out of a HYDRA prison are drinking around him, and Peggy arrives at the Whip and Fiddle in a red dress to find him. The pub was Crocker's Folly in Maida Vale, London, and this is the scene where Steve tells her he is still waiting for the right partner, a line the rest of the saga spends years paying off.

So what is on her wrist? Hard to say, even after a long look. Crop in and there is a small round case, a pale dial gone warm under the pub light, and a thin brown leather strap. It is exactly the restrained period dress watch a sharp SSR officer would actually own, and the costume team clearly thought about it. The one identification floating around tags it as a modern Daniel Wellington, the brown-strapped Classic Bristol. But Daniel Wellington was founded the same year this film came out, which puts a 2011 brand on a 1940s wrist, and the soft cream dial here looks nothing like Wellington's flat white minimalism. So the guess does not hold.

Which leaves the honest version: a well-chosen period piece, on screen for a couple of seconds, with no maker's name worth standing behind. Peggy would probably prefer it that way.
