Sofia runs the Casablanca Continental, the hotel for assassins set in Morocco, and she owes John Wick a marker. When he comes to collect, she fights her way through the souks beside two Belgian Malinois, in one of the standout sequences of Chad Stahelski's John Wick: Chapter 3. Halle Berry trained for months to shoot it, with guns, with hands, and with the dogs.
On her wrist is a Carl F. Bucherer Manero Peripheral, the same brand John Wick wears, which is no accident. Carl F. Bucherer has outfitted the franchise since the first film in 2014, when Stahelski, a brand ambassador, put Wick in the plain 38mm Manero AutoDate. Sofia's is the dressier cousin: a 40mm steel watch with sixty diamonds set around the bezel and a dial cut from cognac-brown mother-of-pearl, with a small-seconds counter and a date.
The name refers to the rotor, not the diamonds. Most automatic watches wind by a weight that swings in the center of the movement and hides it. Carl F. Bucherer moved that weight to the outer edge, a ring running around the rim, so the caliber inside, the chronometer-rated A2050, stays in view through the sapphire back.
