Gerard Butler wears a Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris

After he crash-lands his lightning-crippled airliner on Jolo, a rebel-held island in the southern Philippines, Gerard Butler's pilot Brodie Torrance finds a telephone in an abandoned warehouse, patches the dead line back together, and gets word of the survivors' location out to his airline and his daughter. He makes the call with his free hand braced against a wall of stripped switching equipment, and on that wrist is a steel-toned sports watch on a dark strap. Jean-François Richet directed the 2023 thriller from a screenplay by Charles Cumming and J. P. Davis. Mike Colter plays Louis Gaspare, a former French Foreign Legionnaire being extradited to Toronto on a homicide charge, one of fourteen passengers on the flight.

A few weeks after the film reached theaters, collectors on WatchProSite's Jaeger-LeCoultre forum were studying that very scene. "It's difficult to see, but I think so," wrote the member who proposed the Polaris Chronograph WorldTime, and the others agreed without anyone claiming to be sure. The answer arrived three days later. On February 9, 2023, Fratello identified the watch on its Instagram feed: a Polaris Chronograph WorldTime in titanium, 44 millimeters across, with a blue sunray-brushed dial. The Polaris Chronograph WorldTime dates to 2018, when Jaeger-LeCoultre revived the Polaris name from its 1968 Memovox Polaris diving alarm and built a sports collection around it. The case measures 44 millimeters because the dial carries two complications, a chronograph with counters at three and nine and a world-time ring, and it comes in titanium to keep that much watch light on the wrist. A second crown at ten o'clock turns the city disc, which reads the hour in twenty-four of the world's major cities at once. Inside runs the brand's Calibre 752 column-wheel movement. "Quite fitting for a pilot," Fratello wrote.
