In Ocean's Twelve, Terry Benedict finds each of the eleven men who robbed him and gives them two weeks to pay back what they took, with interest. Andy Garcia plays Benedict, and the debt sends Danny Ocean and the crew across Europe, working jobs in Amsterdam, Rome, and on Lake Como. Through all of it George Clooney wears the same watch he had on when they robbed Benedict the first time, a Hamilton Linwood Viewmatic.
It is a small, quiet watch. By BAMF Style's reading of the costume, the case is 38mm of polished stainless steel, the dial a textured silver with gold-toned hands, plain gold and black hour markers, and a date window at three o'clock. Inside is a 25-jewel automatic, and the back is open, the feature the Viewmatic name points at, so the movement shows through. It rides a 16mm black crocodile strap on a steel tang buckle.
Hamilton is a brand studios reach for because it photographs as understated rather than expensive, and that is the joke on Danny Ocean. The man leading a crew to repay the 160 million dollars they stole wears an accessible American dress watch, not a trophy, and Clooney himself would later become one of Omega's most familiar faces. The watch never gets the slow close-up the heists do. The identification holds because it is the constant on Danny's wrist, the watch from the first film carried into the second, not because the camera ever stops to read the dial.
