Jemma Simmons wears a cheap watch. It is a Carriage, the budget line Timex sells under that name: a cushion of polished steel, a white dial crowded with full Arabic numerals, and a grey-brown lizard-grain leather strap. New, a Carriage sold for well under fifty dollars.
Simmons is the opposite of cheap. She arrives in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as a world-class biochemist and a top graduate of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Science and Technology, half of the Fitz-Simmons pair, and Elizabeth Henstridge plays her as the one who keeps explaining the science while everything around her explodes. The Carriage was part of the kit she carried across the show's seven seasons, through an alien planet and worse.
Propstore sold the actual watch in November 2020, inside a single lot of Simmons's screen-used gear: an orange S.H.I.E.L.D. lanyard, an Academy ID card reading Simmons, Jemma, a pair of lab glasses, a thin silver chain, a faux-diamond engagement ring, a quilted S.H.I.E.L.D. handbag, and, in the auction house's own words, a metal watch with a brown speckled leather watchband. The set came with a Certificate of Authenticity.
As a watch the Carriage is worth a few tens of dollars. As the watch Jemma Simmons wore, it belonged to a lot Propstore estimated at 1,200 to 1,800 dollars, and it sold.
