Ed Sheeran wears an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak

Ed Sheeran plays himself in Yesterday, and somewhere in it he seems to be wearing an Audemars Piguet. That is about as far as the evidence goes. The lone watch magazine that flagged it hedged its own claim, writing that in 'another scene' it 'would seem' he has on a Royal Oak Concept. No frame shows it clearly, and the watch never surfaces in a still.

What makes the Concept guess shaky is Sheeran's own collection. He is a deep Audemars Piguet collector, but the Royal Oaks he is photographed in are not Concepts. There is a one-off white-ceramic Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar he wore on Howard Stern, and a black-ceramic Tourbillon Extra-Thin, both classic Royal Oaks rather than the skeletonized, exposed-movement Concept line. The Royal Oak itself goes back to 1972, when Gérald Genta drew an octagonal steel sports watch and priced it like gold, a move the industry was sure would fail.

Yesterday opened in the summer of 2019, as Sheeran was closing out his Divide tour, by then the highest-grossing concert tour ever recorded. Which Audemars Piguet he wore in it is something the film never makes clear.
