Ed Harris wears a Seiko 6139-6002

The astronauts wore Omega. Gene Kranz wore Seiko. In Ron Howard's Apollo 13 (1995), Ed Harris plays the NASA flight director who held the mission together from Houston while Jim Lovell's crew fought to survive in a crippled spacecraft, and a Seiko sits on his wrist instead of a Speedmaster. NASA flight controllers were not issued the astronauts' watches. They bought their own, and a government salary went further on a Seiko than on an Omega.

The real Gene Kranz wore a Seiko 6119-8460, a modest automatic sports diver, in Mission Control through Apollo 11 and Apollo 13, and Seiko later honored him with re-edition models built on that watch. The piece the film put on Ed Harris has been reported as a Seiko 6139-6002, the cushion-cased automatic chronograph from Seiko's early-1970s sports line, though the exact film reference is not firmly documented.
