Djimon Hounsou plays Albert Laurent in The Island, a mercenary hired to track down escaped clones who have discovered that their supposed utopia is actually a harvesting facility for wealthy clients who need replacement organs. Michael Bay directed this 2005 science fiction film, which flopped despite an interesting premise and strong cast. Hounsou's Laurent pursues Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson across a future Los Angeles while slowly questioning the morality of his assignment. The role gives Hounsou a physical showcase, chasing the leads through Bay's typical explosions and car chases, but also a small arc as he comes to see the clones as human. Hounsou had earned two Oscar nominations by this point and brought more weight to the mercenary role than the script required. The film borrowed so heavily from a 1979 movie called Parts: The Clonus Horror that it led to a lawsuit and settlement. His watch has not been identified.
