Dennis Hopper wears a Rolex GMT-Master II

Howard Payne is one of the better action-movie villains of the 1990s, mostly because Dennis Hopper seems to be having such a good time being terrible. Jan de Bont's Speed reduces its premise to a single gimmick, a bomb on a Los Angeles bus that detonates if the speed drops below fifty miles per hour, and wrings every variation from it for two hours. Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock keep the bus moving while Payne, a bitter retired bomb-squad officer, watches from a distance and collects his ransom.

A watch-spotting site identifies the watch on Hopper's wrist as a Rolex GMT-Master II. Rolex built the original GMT-Master in 1955 for Pan Am pilots who needed to read two time zones at once, using a rotating 24-hour bezel and an extra hand, and by the 1990s it had become a luxury sport watch that kept its aviation roots.
