Danny Pudi wears a Casio CA-53W

Through the run of Community, a black plastic calculator rides on Abed Nadir's wrist. Danny Pudi plays Abed as a film student at a community college who narrates his own life in television terms and calls the tropes before they land. He is the one who looked at a wobbling NBC sitcom and named its future out loud: six seasons and a movie.

The watch is a Casio CA-53W, the calculator model Casio has sold since 1988. Case and strap are black resin, and under the digital display sits a working eight-digit calculator with keys small enough to need a fingernail. It is among the cheapest watches Casio makes, about 40 dollars new, water resistant, with an alarm and a stopwatch. The calculator is the whole point of the watch and the part Abed needs least. He keeps the count himself, down to the seasons the network kept threatening to take away.

Propstore sold the actual watch in July 2017, stock number 74285 in its Community auction, listed plainly as Abed Nadir's, the one he wore throughout the series, with a certificate of authenticity. The auction house described the prop in its own flat inventory terms. Materials: rubber and plastic.
