Roger Murtaugh wears one watch through all of Lethal Weapon, a gold Timex on his left wrist. Danny Glover plays him as the careful half of the partnership, an LAPD detective sergeant who turns fifty in the first act and keeps saying he is too old for this. He has a wife, a houseful of kids, a mortgage, and a pension he would like to live to collect. Mel Gibson's Riggs is the suicidal live wire who keeps trying to get them both killed, and the engine of Richard Donner's movie, written by Shane Black, is the old man minding the young one.
The watch is a classic gold Timex quartz with a glass crystal and a gold-plated President-style bracelet that copies the three-piece links of the Rolex Day-Date, the model nicknamed the President. On a working cop's salary it reads as what it is, a gold-tone Timex that looks like money from across a room and costs almost none of it, the dress watch a careful man with a family and a budget buys once and keeps.
The actual watch survived. It came from the personal collection of Mike Papac, the armourer who handled the guns on Lethal Weapon and Die Hard, and Propstore sold it in April 2026 with a certificate of authenticity, estimated at 2,500 to 5,000 dollars. By the catalog's account the cover and bracelet carry minor scratches from production wear, and the battery is long dead, the hands stopped at 11:26. It is a gold Timex that no longer keeps time, worth thousands now for the wrist it once sat on.
