In Leviathan, the camera finds Buzz Parrish leaning over a small aquarium in his bunk, and the watch on the hand pressed to the glass comes clear: a black-cased diver with a red-tipped second hand sweeping a dark dial. Daniel Stern plays Parrish, the crewman everyone calls Sixpack, the crude joker of a deep-sea mining team working the ocean floor in George Cosmatos's 1989 Alien-on-the-seabed horror.
Sixpack is the one who finds the wreck's hidden vodka and drinks it, which is how the thing gets into the crew: the sunken Soviet ship Leviathan was a floating experiment, its liquor spiked with a mutagen that rewrites a man into something with gills and teeth. Stern, a year before he narrated The Wonder Years and two before Home Alone, plays the first of the crew to turn.
The watch is a tool diver, black on black with a red second hand and a fat rubber strap, the kind a man wears to work at pressure, but no logo or model clears the dial, so the maker stays unidentified. It rides his wrist through the last ordinary scene he gets, a man and his fish tank, before the ship's water starts turning the crew into the thing that hunts them.
