As James Bond, Daniel Craig wore modern Omega Seamasters: Planet Oceans, Diver 300Ms, Aqua Terras, all current-production references supplied through one of the longest-running brand partnerships in cinema. As Benoit Blanc in Rian Johnson's 2019 whodunit Knives Out, he wears a vintage Omega Seamaster De Ville, gold, with a gold "pie pan" dial, on a textured dark brown leather strap. The watch is the same brand Bond wears, and it is the opposite of everything Bond wears.
Blanc is everything Bond is not: soft-spoken, Southern, fond of cable-knit sweaters, and more interested in listening than fighting. Johnson puts Craig in a small round vintage case where Bond would have worn a 42mm dive watch on a NATO. The De Ville is a dress watch for a gentleman detective, the kind of piece a man inherits rather than buys, and it reads as quiet taste. That is how Blanc operates. He solves the case by being underestimated.
There is a small joke buried in all of this. In the theatrical cut the watch barely reads on screen, and for a while fans only theorized a vintage Omega off Craig's standing as a brand ambassador. The positive identification came from a deleted-scene screenshot posted online, where the gold pie-pan dial is finally legible. Even the detective's own watch had to be solved off camera.
The Blanc trilogy tracks its own Omega progression. This vintage Seamaster De Ville in Knives Out gives way to an Omega Seamaster 1948 Co-Axial small seconds in Glass Onion, each a dress watch, each deliberately smaller and quieter than anything Bond ever wore.
