Damson Idris wears a Timex Marathon

The still on this record makes its own case: Lieutenant Harp pressing a field phone to his ear, and on his right wrist, large enough to read, a digital watch showing the day and the time. Damson Idris plays Harp in Mikael Hafstrom's Outside the Wire (2021) as a drone pilot who makes lethal calls from the math, grounded for disobeying orders and sent into the demilitarized zone alongside Anthony Mackie's android officer. The identification of the watch as a Timex Marathon comes from product-placement spotters and has never been taken up by a watch publication; what the frame shows is a grey resin sport digital whose display layout matches the Marathon line, and nothing finer can be read off the screen.

Timex descends from the Waterbury Clock Company, making inexpensive American watches since the 1850s, and the Marathon sits at the cheap end of its digital line, usually under 50 dollars. The film's other documented wrist sharpens the contrast: Mackie's android wears an 800 dollar G-Shock Mudmaster, identified by the watch press down to its colorway, while the human lieutenant wears a drugstore digital.
