Craig T. Nelson wears a Cartier Pasha de Cartier

In May 2023, Focus Features released Book Club: The Next Chapter, written and directed by Bill Holderman with Erin Simms, and sent its four women to Italy on a bachelorette trip, the vacation the group had postponed years before. Craig T. Nelson plays Bruce, Mary Steenburgen's husband, recovering from a heart attack suffered before the trip, and he joins them in Tuscany. The film puts him on a driving range there, navy vest, ball cap, sunglasses, one hand on his hip, and a steel watch on his left wrist.

The watch shows a round case under a smooth bezel, a silvered dial with oversized Arabic numerals and the small dark rings of chronograph registers, a steel bracelet, and a crown wearing a fluted cap: the profile of the Pasha de Cartier, the design Gerald Genta drew for the brand, first introduced in 1985 as a 38 millimeter yellow gold watch with its date window tucked between 4 and 5 o'clock. The modern steel line runs to a 41 millimeter chronograph whose catalog entry lists a fluted crown cap, push-pieces set with synthetic spinels, a silvered flinque dial, and blued-steel diamond-shaped hands, all consistent with what the frame shows.

What the identification lacks is a paper trail. No watch publication covered the film, and the naming rests on screen evidence rather than on any printed source. The film did fine for a 20 million dollar comedy, taking 29.1 million dollars worldwide, and it closes with two weddings: Vivian marries Arthur, Diane accepts Mitchell's proposal, and Sharon, the retired judge of the group, officiates.
