In Disclosure Day, Steven Spielberg's 2026 return to science fiction, Colin Firth plays Noah Scanlon, the head of a secretive corporation called Wardex that sits at the dead center of the film's alien cover-up. The movie is built around a hidden truth. So what does the costume department put on the man keeping the secret? A watch designed to hide nothing.
It's a Hamilton Jazzmaster Open Heart - the dress automatic that cuts a window into its own dial so you can watch the balance wheel swing back and forth underneath. Hamilton built it to show off the movement, to put its beating heart on display, and somebody pinned it to the one character whose whole job is concealment. Maybe nobody on set thought it through. I'd like to believe somebody did.
It's a real watch, not a movie fake. Hamilton has spent decades getting its catalog on screen, and it documents this placement on its own site, one of two Hamiltons it slipped into the film. The Open Heart runs on the Powermatic 80, good for about eighty hours off a single wind, behind a sapphire crystal. A quiet, handsome thing, and the strangest possible pick for a man spending an entire Spielberg thriller trying to keep the lid on.
