John Sugar dresses like a private eye out of 1947, the trench coat and the soft voice and the old-movie manners, and the watch under his cuff fits the act: a thin steel dress watch on a brown leather strap, on record as a Venezianico Redentore Riserva di Carica. Colin Farrell plays Sugar in the Apple TV neo-noir, a courtly investigator working missing-persons cases through a sunlit, seedy Los Angeles.
Venezianico is a young Venetian microbrand, and the Redentore is its slim hand-wound dress line; the Riserva di Carica adds a power-reserve indicator that shows how much wind is left in the mainspring. It is a precise, old-world choice for a man who watches everyone and gives away nothing, though the frame catches the watch edge-on and never lets the dial settle the call, which keeps the identification at the level of a careful guess.
The guess fits what the show eventually admits Sugar is. Late in the first season he turns out to be an alien, blue-skinned beneath the bone structure, one of a quiet society living on Earth to study people. The dress watch and the film-buff patter and the courtly courtesy are all costume, the careful surface a creature builds to pass for one of the humans it came to watch.
