Claire Simone spent the war years cataloging what the Nazis stole. Cate Blanchett plays her in George Clooney's The Monuments Men (2014), a museum curator loosely based on Rose Valland, the real French art historian who secretly documented every painting that passed through the Jeu de Paume under German occupation. Blanchett's performance is the film's strongest element — she plays a woman who survived by being useful to the occupiers while quietly sabotaging them, and she doesn't trust the Americans any more than she trusted the Germans to care about the art for the right reasons. Her scenes with Matt Damon's James Granger are tense because she's deciding whether he deserves what she knows.
In this image, she sits with Damon at a table covered in handwritten inventories and documents, working by candlelight. A small watch is visible on her left wrist — round case, dark strap, properly sized for a woman's wrist. It fits the 1940s setting but has not been identified.
