Sergeant Richard Campbell spends The Monuments Men in an American uniform, and on his wrist Bill Murray wears a Bulova A-10. It is the small round field watch the US Army issued by the crateload during the Second World War, made to a government specification with a hack mechanism, a stop-seconds device so a squad could set their watches to the same instant before moving. After Pearl Harbor the A-10 went out across both theaters, on the wrists of GIs in the Pacific and infantry in Europe alike.

George Clooney directed the film, a true story about the curators and architects the Allies sent into the war to find and save the art the Nazis were looting. Clooney collects watches himself, which may explain how exact the period detail is. The same A-10 turns up on Matt Damon, John Goodman, and Clooney, identical on every wrist, because the Army bought it to a single specification from Bulova, Elgin, and Hamilton, and the contractors all built it the same.
