Felix Happer would rather be looking at the sky. In Bill Forsyth's Local Hero (1983), Burt Lancaster plays the billionaire head of Knox Oil and Gas, who sends an executive to buy up a Scottish coastal village for a refinery and spends his own time on astronomy, hunting for a comet he wants named after himself. By the end he scraps the refinery for a marine laboratory and observatory on the bay. Mark Knopfler wrote the score.
On Happer's wrist is a gold dress watch on a black leather strap, with a fluted bezel and what looks like a moon-phase sub-dial at six o'clock. The brand is hard to settle. A French watch column called it a Patek Philippe Calatrava, but the standard Calatrava is a plain, time-only watch with no fluted bezel and no moon phase, and the closest published look at it, by the costume site BAMF Style, could not name the maker at all. The safest description is the one the screen supports: an expensive-looking gold moon-phase watch whose manufacturer has not been established.
