Jeff Talley is a former LAPD hostage negotiator who walked away from the job for the quiet of a small-town police-chief post in Bristo Camino after a negotiation ended in the deaths of a woman and her son. Bruce Willis plays him in Florent-Emilio Siri's Hostage (2005), and the film pulls Talley back into the work he fled when three young men take a family captive in a hilltop fortress of a house, and then men of his own are taken to force his cooperation. In the frame where his watch is most visible, Talley kneels with his hands cupped and slick with blood, denim at his knees, the watch riding on his right wrist as the violence catches up with him. What sits there is a round watch on a dark leather strap, a polished steel case, a black dial, a crown at three, and pale center hands, but the brand and model never come into focus, and no reputable source has ever documented what Talley wears. The film is more forthcoming about other wrists than its hero's: the daughter Amanda wears an inexpensive Galaxy-branded watch, and the calm intruder the script calls the Watchman wears a Cartier Pasha. Talley's own watch, the one the camera lingers on while his hands are red, remains an open question.
