Bill Strother wears an Ingersoll Yankee

Safety Last! (1923) is the Harold Lloyd comedy built around his terrifying climb up the face of a department store. Bill Strother plays the Pal, Lloyd's daredevil roommate, the man actually meant to scale the building until the law gets in the way. Waiting at the employees' entrance, he checks his pocket watch, an Ingersoll, the maker whose cheap and reliable Yankee was sold by the million as the watch that made the dollar watch famous. It is exactly the everyman timepiece for a character who climbs skyscrapers for spare cash.
