The Rip put Ben Affleck and Matt Damon back on screen together, in a Miami crime story Netflix released in January 2026 and the two of them produced through Artists Equity. Joe Carnahan wrote and directed; the plot, drawn from a real Miami-Dade police captain, strands a narcotics unit with twenty-four million dollars in found cash and watches them turn paranoid. Affleck plays Detective Sergeant J.D. Byrne, the unit's looser, streetwear-dressed member, in Jordans and a hoodie from costume designer Kelli Jones.
In one dim interior scene, the squad sits in their POLICE vests, and Byrne's left hand rests on his knee. There is a watch on that wrist, a dark case on a black band, but the dial is turned in toward his body and the light is almost gone, so the face never shows.
Watch-spotters who combed the film hit the same wall. Someone went looking specifically for Affleck's watch and came back with nothing, writing that every scene with it is a blur. The only piece anyone has named in The Rip is the cheap Citizen on Matt Damon's wrist; Byrne's was never pinned down.
