Antonio Banderas wears a Rolex Oyster

The still on this record is Aristotle Papdopolous at his most self-satisfied: reading aloud from a book titled Romantic Poetry to Salma Hayek's Sonia on a seaside terrace, a gold watch on the wrist holding the book. Patrick Hughes's Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard (2021) brings back Ryan Reynolds's bodyguard and Samuel L. Jackson's hitman, promotes Hayek to the title, adds Morgan Freeman, and hands Antonio Banderas the villain: a Greek shipping magnate plotting a cyberattack on Europe's power grid. The French watch site Montres-de-luxe logged his watch as a Rolex Oyster in gold and steel, and that is as specific as anyone has gotten.

The frame supports the two-tone call without settling anything finer. What shows on Banderas's wrist is a link bracelet in gold tones, a sliver of round case, and the winding crown; the dial stays turned away, and the film never gives it a close-up. Oyster is Rolex's name for the waterproof case it introduced in 1926, the word on nearly every watch the brand has made since, so the published identification amounts to a two-tone Rolex on a villain dressed as old Mediterranean money.
